What is Mass Save®?
Mass Save® is a collaborative of Massachusetts' natural gas and electric utilities and energy efficiency service providers, working together to help residents and businesses save energy and money.
The Mass Save® Program
Mass Save® provides a wide range of services, incentives, training, and information to help Massachusetts residents manage energy use and related costs. The program is sponsored by your local electric and natural gas utilities and energy efficiency service providers.
Through Mass Save®, you can access no-cost home energy assessments, rebates on energy-efficient appliances, discounted products, and various incentives to make energy-saving improvements to your home.
At Lela Homelife, we partner with Neeco, a Mass Save® licensed contractor, to help homeowners schedule their free home energy assessments and navigate the available incentives and rebates.
Benefits of a Home Energy Assessment
A home energy assessment is the first step toward making your home more energy-efficient and comfortable.
Identify energy-saving opportunities that can significantly reduce your monthly utility bills, with potential savings of 20-30% on energy costs.
Improve your home's comfort by addressing drafts, temperature inconsistencies, and humidity issues throughout all seasons.
Energy-efficient homes typically have higher resale values and are more attractive to potential buyers in today's environmentally conscious market.
Receive complimentary energy-efficient LED light bulbs, advanced power strips, low-flow showerheads, and programmable thermostats during your assessment.
Qualify for substantial rebates and incentives on insulation, air sealing, heating and cooling equipment, and other energy-efficient upgrades.
Lower your environmental impact by reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions associated with heating, cooling, and powering your home.
What to Expect During Your Assessment
A typical home energy assessment takes 2-3 hours and includes a comprehensive evaluation of your home's energy use.
The energy specialist will discuss your energy concerns, review your utility bills, and explain the assessment process.
A thorough inspection of your home's insulation, heating and cooling systems, appliances, windows, and doors to identify energy loss areas.
Advanced tests like blower door tests to measure air leakage and infrared scanning to detect insulation gaps and thermal deficiencies.
Receive a detailed report with customized energy-saving recommendations, available incentives, and estimated cost savings.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Mass Save® home energy assessments and energy efficiency improvements.
Massachusetts residents who are customers of participating utility companies (Eversource, National Grid, Unitil, Berkshire Gas, Liberty Utilities, or Cape Light Compact) are eligible for a no-cost home energy assessment. Both homeowners and renters (with landlord permission) can participate.
Home energy assessments are offered at no cost to eligible Massachusetts residents through the Mass Save® program. The assessment is funded by a small charge included in your utility bills.
To prepare for your assessment, gather your recent energy bills, make a list of any comfort issues or concerns, ensure access to all areas of your home (including attic, basement, and crawl spaces), and clear space around heating and cooling equipment. The energy specialist will need access to all rooms in your home.
A home energy assessment helps identify ways to reduce your overall energy consumption before installing solar. By improving your home's efficiency first, you can potentially reduce the size and cost of the solar system needed to power your home. This approach—efficiency first, then solar—maximizes your investment and environmental impact.
After your assessment, you'll receive a customized home energy report with recommended improvements and available incentives. You can then decide which improvements to implement. If you choose to proceed with recommended insulation or air sealing work, Mass Save® will connect you with approved contractors. For heating, cooling, or water heating equipment, you can select any licensed contractor, and Mass Save® will provide the applicable rebates after installation.
